For Municipal and County Government Employees

Please note: this program is available only to municipal and county government employees in Tennessee.

The Local Government Leadership Program (LGLP) is a multi-day leadership development program to help participants enhance their leadership knowledge and skills. The program brings together leaders from municipal and county governments across Tennessee to provide them with tools to guide their cities and counties into the future.

LGLP provides elected and senior-level government officials an opportunity to explore ideas and strategies aimed at improving the delivery of government services to Tennesseans. This experience challenges local government leaders to fulfill their leadership roles more effectively.

Throughout the program, participants hear from speakers and trainers outside of government and share and learn from their peers. Participants learn more about themselves, the challenges of leadership in a public sector environment, and the role of leaders in today’s communities.

Participation & Nominations

Participants are nominated by program alumni and are awarded scholarships to attend by the Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) and County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS). Thirty final attendees are selected by MTAS and CTAS leadership. Each class strives to reflect a mix of elected and appointed officials from cities and counties of all sizes across all three grand divisions of the state.
